The Faulkner Society’s annual overture to the summer social season and fundraiser, Juleps in June, will take place Friday, June 13, at the spectacular residence of Honorary Co-Chairs, Greer and David Monteleone, 21 Nassau Drive. Your formal invitation and reservations form are attached. We realize many of you do not live in Louisiana but, if you are in or near New Orleans this week, we hope you will attend.
The Faulkner Society is a (501) (c) (3) literary and educational non-profit. Donations are, therefore, tax deductible.
Proceeds from the event help offset the costs of the Society’s projects to encourage teenagers at-risk for illiteracy to improve their reading and writing skills, continuing education for developing writers, programs to help writers get their work published, and a year round calendar of events for dedicated readers combined with food and frequently great music.
Our major projects for the fall will include our festival, Words & Music, a Literary Feast in New Orleans, December 4 – 8. Part of the programming will focus on the work of Walker Percy, author of The Moviegoer, which won the National Book Award, Love in the Ruins, Lancelot, and other works of fiction, as well as entertaining and enlightening non-fiction, such as Signposts in a Strange Land and The Last Self-Help Book. Our literacy project concurrent with Words & Music, will include distribution of free copies of a Walker Percy novel, as well as a master class for students and teachers on his work.
Our next free event will be a multi-author My New Orleans event July 21 at the Cabildo. Among authors will be Liz Wiliams and Rick Barton. For more on the Faulkner Society, visit our website.
Juleps is June is a fun way to support reading and writing, the basic building blocks of civilization…lift a cup to our honorees, Dalt Wonk and Josephine Sacabo, hear two musical groups perform, and enjoy a marvelous menu of specialties prepared by prizewinning Chef Randy Buck, just named Chef of the Year, who is Executive Chef of the Hotel Monteleone, a sponsor of the event.
We look forward to seeing you Friday. For a reservation form: 2013_Juleps_Reservation_Form
